The South Devon Society’s Autumn Sale at Worcester was held as a much welcomed live event and saw confident trade for vendors and purchasers from England, Scotland and Wales.  Bull averages jumped by £463 on the same sale in 2019.

Waddeton Jamboree

In the sale ring top priced bull at 4,100 gns was The Tully Partnership’s Waddeton Jamboree, a November 2018 born bull by AI Z East Farm Javelin and with a pedigree including Edmeston Homer 1 and Z Hawkley SAS Javelin.  He moves from Brixham, Devon, to Mr G Eustice from Hayle, Cornwall.   

Next highest price at 3,800 gns was for Mr D L Irving’s polled bull, Z Enterprise Joshua, sired by Z Malthouse Hurricane and whose maternal grandsire was Enterprise Condor.  The bull travelled down from Dumfriesshire and will be joining the Highgate herd near Lostwithiel, Cornwall. 

At 3,700 gns, another Devon breeder, R J & C J Edwards from Tavistock sold Colcharton Brutus 4, by Z Beckaveans Brutus, to the Claridge family at Middle Claydon, Buckinghamshire. 

Brettles Gypsy 30

The female section was topped by two maiden 2019-born heifers from Mr & Mrs M Rushbrooke, Bewdley, Worcestershire selling at 2,300 gns and 2,100 gns apiece to A & C Farms, Oakham, Rutland.  Both heifers were sired by 2017 Performance Championship male champion Z Eyton Trusty 3 and out of homebred Brettles cows.

A & C Farms sold a consignment of females at the Sale from their Langham’s herd comprising cows with calves, in-calf and maiden heifers.  The cows topped at 1,500 gns to A E Howells & Son from Hereford.  Two year old Langham’s heifers topped at 1,050 gns for Langham’s Mimosa 17.

Top price in the maiden non-haltered heifer section was for one of a consignment of four from David Smallcombe Ltd, North Piddle, Worcestershire, which sold to Bures Farm Partnership, Thetford, Norfolk for 1,050 gns. 

McCartneys Auctioneer Mr Clive Roads said after the Sale, “It was pleasing to see commitment and support from buyers at Worcester for the sale and the genuine competition that achieved excellent returns.”
